Mai.T #2 【Chicago】

I would like to introduce one of my favourite films "Chicago"

Chicago is a musical film made in 2002 after a 1975  Kander and Ebb Broadway musical of the same name. The film was directed my Rob Marshall, and Bill Condon as screenwriter. It has won six Academy Awards including the Best Picture and became the first musical film to win this since Oliver! in 1969.

The story is about two women named Roxie and Velma. Roxie is dreaming of perfoming on stage and Velma is a star singer at a bar. They were living completely different lives and were never meant to get to know eachother. Until one day, they happen to meet each other in prison for having one thing in common; murdering. Hungry for fame, they both struggle to make themselves out of prison and back on stage where they think they belong.

Roxie is played by Renee Zellweger, who is famous for acting in films such as Bridget Jones Diary and Miss. Potter. Velma is played by Catherine Zeta-Jones from Titanic and The Phantom. Both their dancing and the songs in the movie are all very excitng and  grabs your attention.

I would highly reccommend this movie to those who like watching musicals. I have seen it many times and I also have the soundtracks for the movie because I love the songs. I especially like "All That Jazz" and "We Both Reached For The Gun". Please try listening to the music first if you have any interest in watching the film!

I will be happy to lend anybody the DVD if they wish!

  1. The movie is interesting for me, but I don't have such as musical knowledege..., so I may need to watch the sort of film to get myself understood the musical world. When I watched another musical movie, I could feel relaxed and excited. Anyway, some English teacher told me that musical films were good to learn English because there were many vocabularies and expressions that we should know. I will try learning those by using musical movies.(shinya Uchida)

  2. This is oen of my favorite too!!! This movie is great!
also, I love All That Jazz! that is really cool song! i feel like story line is too unrealistic and story moves back and forth bit too much so it was bit hard to catch up the story in the beginning.
but it has so much entertainment and i simply love this movie!

  3. It seems very fun! I love music so I want to see this movie!
The part that only common thing was murder was a lot to think about. They can become friends even by murdering was interesting. Maybe people that have some kind of similarity are likely to become friends.
Anyway, I am happy to see this movie! And I probably will!

  7. My most favorite kind of music is Jazz, so I might enjoy this movie too.
I think it's ironic how both women ends one relation with murdering, and that leads to making one new relation for each other. I kind of want to know how they get out of prison and their life after that.

  9. As you know, I am not a fan of musicals. I saw some clips from the movie and was a amazed by Renee Zellweger and Catherine Zeta-Jones' fantastic singing and dancing skills. Very very impressive indeed. Maybe they surprised themselves too. I wonder what makes a regular drama/comedy actor want to try a musical. I guess it is the challenge they are seeking, but it is a great challenge indeed. These two actresses certainly met the challenge fully, I think.
