Gone With The Wind (Maria Yaka)

Hi!  How are you? How's your summer vacation?
I watched a movie called 'Gone With The Wind'.

This movie was made in 1939 in USA, directed by David Selznick. Scarlett O'Hara is played by Vivien Leigh and  Rhett Butler by Clark Gable. It won 9 Accademy awards in 1940.

The story is very long. (It took me 4 hours to finish watching this movie.)  Scarlett O'hara ,born in Tara in USA, is a selfish woman. She finds out that her lover,  Ashley will marry to Melanie, who is kind like an angle. However, the American Civil War breaks out and all men take part in the war except Rhett Butler. He knows that South will lose and he loves Scarlett.   Scarlett and Melanie leave Tara. Melanie has a baby.  But the war is getting worse and worse. She asks Rhett to send them to Tara. They go back to Tara at the risk og thier lives to find that everything was broken by north army and that there is nothing to eat. Scarlett is  shocked at first but she swears she will be strong.

First, I was surprised at the magnificence of this movie in every way. The story, casting, music and set design. I can't believe that this movie was filmed in 1939 without CG. Furthermore, it is midst of World War Two. The number of extra is beyond my imagination.

Can you see the number of the people lying on the ground?

Secondly, the story. It is such a long story including many events that it doesn't make us bored.  I'm sure you will be surprised to know the ending. Scarlett's strength in the bottom of the heart and Melanie's kindness is what all women wants to have. However hard the situation is, they don't give up and survive. I can't be such a strong woman but I learned the importance of strength and kindness in a crisis.

I think this film is masterpiece and will be watched by people all over the world  for now on forever.

  1. I once borrowed the movie at a rental store when I was a high school student but I never thought the story was going to so long I didn't get to finish watching it. I remember being surprised that the movie was taken without any CGs. I definitely would like to find some time to watch it properly! (Mai.T)

  3. "Never give up", every guys can say this word easily, but it's not easy to do that actually. I also watiched the movie about 3 years ago and felt what a sad story that is. The film has many historical and educational things as that age is Civil War in America. I wonder how they could make the film Without CG. Nowadays, films are needed CG to make its perfect. On the other hand, this doesn't use it. This is an unique movie. (Shinya Uchida)

  6. I haven't seen this movie even though it is very famous. Four hours are quite long time. But I liked the expression you used to describe a story that "important of strength and kindness in the crisis". I really think it is true. Even though people are kind, they sometimes cannot do anything because they do not have a strength or power. However, only strength makes people sometimes mean. I was able to sympathize to what you have said.
As soon as I can, I will watch this movie!

  7. I know that it's very famous movie, but I've never seen it. After read you review, I really want to want watch this movie, even though I need four hours to watch this. I can't believe that they didn't use CG. It looks like they use it, but there is no technique of CG in 1930s. I want to know about more detail of story, so I should watch this movie.

  9. I don't want to say this, but I really don't like war movies. I understand its power for moving people's heart, but for me, it is too emotional.
I know that it is selfish, but I don't understand why wars happen. People has their life, so why do leader's of country use their citizens like their tools?

  10. I know this movie ,but I never watched it. It was surprising for me that the picture of the burning house isn't CG. I don't like war movies much,so I didn't want to watch it. But, when I heard that it has no CG in it, I got interested.

  11. The film takes place during the American Civil War - many many years before World War II! It is a really long movie, I know, and so is the book. I read the book before watching the movie when I was an elementary school student. It was a big challenge for me. The last line by Rhett, "Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn" is one of the most famous movie lines of all times. I am glad you tackled a really challenging film.
