Recently, I'm working at AFS as a volunteer and I want to talk about AFS International Camp, today.
First, I want to talk about what AFS is. AFS (American Field Service) is one of the biggest volunteering groups in the world. And it has a exchange student program and basically it is only for high school students. I used this exchange program to go to USA when I was a high school student. I had a wonderful time at over there and that's why I decided to work at AFS. I really want high school students to go to foreign countries. The reason is I want them to broaden their international horizons. If you are interesting in this volunteering group, you should check it out at the website here. Or, you can ask me!!
Next, I will talk about AFS International Camp 2013 Ohira. This camp will be held on August 5th till 8th. About a hundred Japanese high school students and 30 exchange students are going to participate in this camp. And, the exchange students came from many countries. For example, Thailand, Indonesia, Brazil, Peru, Cost Rica, Norway, Germany, USA and so on.
At the camp orientation for exchange students
This camp has a lot of activities. For example, a recreation, a campfire, discussions and so on. Through this activities, the students are able to feel the international things and the activities will make them more interested in foreign countries. If you want to watch a video, you should go to a facebook page here. The video is from last year.
Now, I'm very exciting to go there and I can't wait to see the high school students and exchange students!!
Your blog was very interesting! It really sounds great to have oppotunities like you to be in touch with people from all over the world. Meeting new people, especially from foreign countries is one of the things I like too. I enjoyed watching the video! (Mai.T)

ReplyDeleteWhen I went to America a years ago, I could communicate with Korean, American, Mexican, Chinese, Swiss, African, Saudi Arabian and Brazilian. That was so excting and tought me how to make conversation with them. I hope you keep to practice communicating with many foreginers and you can also feel how world is wide.(Shinya Uchida)

It seems so exiting! I wish I knew this kind of camp when I was in high school. But volunteering might be hard! When I saw this video, everyone seems to be enjoying. They are young and shining! To have something exiting seems great!

I have heard about AFS a little before but it sounds exiting! When I went to England for English program, I was surprised to find friends from other countries are so matured for their age. Spending time with friends from different culture always broaden our views. I'm looking forward to hearing your summer story!

I knew that there are lots of people who went to foreign country as a exchange student, like you, but my reason for going to America was because of my father's job. Difference is that people who were exchange students were willing to go to other country, but I didn't have choice, even if I didn't want to go.
ReplyDeleteI really admire every exchange students. I'm not brave enough to go out of country by myself.

It looks interesting! How was it? I think it is good chance for both Japanese and foreignersto make friends. It would be a good experience to exchange different culture.

Hi, this is Ms. MacGregor. Sounds like a fun volunteer experience. I have some questions about the camp - how does it work? I mean, how do Japanese and foreign students apply to go to the camp? What's the criteria for attending and the cost for them? Now I have a question about your volunteering - besides the camp, how often do you volunteer and what do you do? Thanks for your details.
